After winning the I Love Cairns speech contest (Open Category) on Saturday 21st August, Celia Berrell will be repeating her speech “A Golden Opportunity” on Breakfast with Kier Shorey, tomorrow (Tuesday 24th August) between 7 and 7.30am on ABC Far North radio. “Thank you Local Toastmaster Clubs, Splash, IGA and TAFE for supporting this contest”, says Celia. The challenge is now on to find someone who can knock this two-time winner off her perch next year! For those of you who miss the radio broadcast, the place-getting speeches will be posted onto the I Love Cairns website later this week. See www.ilovecairns.org.

Leeds City Toastmasters enjoy Celia’s speech

Mt Sheridan Toastmaster member Celia Berrell recently visited the Leeds City Toastmasters Club in England. Her humorous speech “Beauty and the Breast” was awarded Best Speech of the Night on 15/7. President Dinesh Kaulgud wittily evaluated the speech. He started by saying that it was a difficult speech to evaluate because his mind kept defaulting back … (to looking at the breasts was inferred but not mentioned). The Leeds Club receives a lot of guests, so their agenda focuses well on the details of each role within a club meeting. They save Table Topics until the end of the meeting and regard it as a fun activity for all new guests to try out! It’s a topsy turvey world isn’t it?
